Description

This piece was created as a 2 part exploration of personal identity. The series was created from the following prompt:

deconstruct | verb [with obj.] | reduce (something) to its constituent parts in order to reinterpret it

 1. Select something. 2. Deconstruct it. 3. Make a work in response to the process
or result of the deconstruction. 4. Create a title for the work.

The series was a deconstruction of myself through my workspace as an investigation of personal identity and how an object that is significant to one person is a reflection of who they are. This piece is a dissection of the contents of my desk. The dissection served as a physical catalog and visual interpretation of each object in order to intimately analyze details and familiarize myself to the objects I surround myself with daily in a scientific manner rather than in a sentimental or functional matter that I usually do. The work was composed in a visual meant to mimic the scientific revolution of the 16th and 17th centuries, where science, for the first time, was beginning to have a concrete place in culture and society. This is because the majority of studies were done in a traditional, observational fashion (such as dissections) alongside an uprising os spiritual belief and pseudoscience that rivaled hard science for popularity that is reflective of the more conceptual nature of the process of creating this work, as well as the analytical manner in which it was conducted.
